Pain often shows up in one spot but starts somewhere else. A stiff hip can show up as low back pain. A stiff ankle can overload the knee. A functional movement assessment looks at how you move as a whole, so treatment targets what's actually driving your symptoms.
Taryn is certified in the Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA) and draws on it as part of her assessments when it fits your situation.
How it works
- Move: You will go through a series of everyday movements, like bending, squatting, rotating and reaching.
- Break it down: when a movement is painful or limited, she tests it in smaller pieces to see whether the issue is mobility (you can't get there) or control (you can get there, but not steadily).
- Build your plan: treatment targets the driver, with hands-on work where mobility is the issue, exercise for strength and control, and education so you understand what's going on.
Who it's for
- Aches and pains that keep coming back
- Low back, hip, knee or shoulder pain
- Athletes returning to sport
